#BHeard Docs: Stealing Home | How Deed Theft Makes Homeowners Homeless

NYC property owners -- mostly Black or brown, often older -- are losing their homes to a whole complex of confidence scams, collectively known as deed theft. Why was Michael Baker evicted from a Brooklyn home his family had owned, free and clear, since 1963? In May 2023, the Court granted Michael’s motion to revive his claims against one of the entities that took ownership of his property’s title, finding it may have been involved in the initial fraud. Michael still faces a long fight and significant obstacles to recovering his property’s title. -- This video is from BRIC TV— the first 24/7 television channel created by, for, and about Brooklyn. The Iron Pipeline | #BHeard Docs: The Damage Done

One of the major causes of gun violence in NYC is simple: the sheer number of guns on the streets. The unofficial but longstanding system behind that number takes advantage of I-95 and its tributaries, and the many “mouths” of this river are gun dealers and gun shows in a number of southern states. How does this "Iron Pipeline" work, and why has it been so hard to shut it down? Flatbush Fists | Part Five | Lyrical Mantis

Brooklyn rapper Haile Ali initially sought out the martial arts as a means of protecting himself on the streets at night. After studying with Master Rollie "Lumumba" Hernandez, Ali eventually found a greater sense of purpose in the art form, applying the principles and discipline of Tai Chi to his artistic music practice. In Part Five of Flatbush Fists, we follow Haile Ali from the stage, to the studio, to a playground in Brooklyn where he practices martial arts with the members of his community, and trace the legacy of the borough’s fascination with the art form from its pioneering elders to the torch-bearers of tomorrow. -- This video is from BRIC TV— the first 24/7 television channel created by, for, and about Brooklyn.
